The Rafters

The Rafters are a folk-pop singer/songwriter duo made up of Miki and Dave Fitzgibbons, who met in college and have been performing across the Northeast ever since. Miki’s compelling lead vocals and thoughtfully crafted lyrics are brought to life by Dave’s atmospheric guitar work and rich vocal harmonies, creating a sound that is intimate, honest, and unmistakably their own.

Although The Rafters have not spent much time online in recent years, they have been quietly playing shows throughout New England, staying connected to their audience in person while celebrating meaningful life events with their growing family. Now, with renewed focus and energy, 2026 will mark the beginning of a new chapter—featuring dedicated Rafters shows and a brand-new recording that continues their evolution.

Their last EP, “Departing”—produced and mixed by Crit Harmon—followed three self-produced CDs and one live album. Departing is defined as “to leave, typically in order to start a journey,” and the EP represents exactly that: a bold step into a modern sonic landscape, guided by Harmon’s production and The Rafters’ own expanding musical vision.

"The Rafters' songs are about real people and real things."
Scott Alarik, Folk Writer, Boston Globe, Sing Out

"Miki’s voice is simply a pleasure to listen to... enveloping, authentic and without pretense. It’s a voice that is comfortable saying profound things."
Lorne Entress, Producer, Drummer

The Worcester Telegram praised Departing for its “beautiful, delicate guitar work” and “richly textured” sound, noting the duo’s unique ability to blend folk harmonies with an understated rock sensibility.

Over the years, The Rafters have earned recognition as a Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist, a headline act for the New England Acoustic Festival, and top honors on OurStage—achieving #1 in the local Country and Americana categories and breaking into the national Top 15 in the Country. They have shared the stage with celebrated artists including Peter Yarrow, Amy Ray (Indigo Girls), Joan Osborne, Lori McKenna, Ellis Paul, John Gorka, and Mieka Pauley.

With 2026 promising new music and a return to the stage in full force, The Rafters are once again stepping forward—departing toward the next chapter of their musical journey.
